About the NEDS Donate Life Scholars Program
The NEDS Donate Life Scholars Program is a free educational experience for rising high school juniors and seniors. We are looking for students passionate about healthcare, public health, and learning about organ donation and transplantation.
Through school-based activities, students will learn about organ and tissue donation, transplantation, and the life-saving impact of donor registration.
Working in partnership with NEDS, students will do activities to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation in their school. This may include informational campaigns in their high school, social media awareness, and meeting people personally touched by organ donation and transplantation.
Student Benefits
Students who complete program requirements will receive:
- A $200 scholarship
- Exposure to healthcare professionals, organ donor families, and transplant patients
- Leadership experience
- A certificate and recognition at the virtual end-of-year ceremony
- Valuable experience to include on college, scholarship, or job applications
Eligibility
To apply for the NEDS Donate Life Scholars Program, students must be:
- A rising high school junior or senior for the coming school year
- Interested in healthcare, public health, and learning about organ donation and transplantation.
- Attending a high school in New England
Important Dates:
- June 15th (Application Opens)
- August 15th (Application Deadline)
- August 31st (Students will be notified via email if accepted)
- Late September (Virtual Kickoff Meeting)

Who can apply?

Do I need any prior healthcare or advocacy experience?
No, previous experience is not required.
When will I be notified?
Applicants will be notified of their selection status by August 31st.
What happens if I am selected?
Selected students will receive program information and are expected to attend the Kickoff Meeting in late September.
What qualities are you looking for?

- A willingness to educate other students about organ donation
- Enthusiasm for making a positive impact
How many students will be selected?
12–24 students will be chosen for next year’s program.
Is the program virtual or in-person?
The program includes virtual meetings with the Program Director at NEDS and in-person activities at your high school.
What activities will students participate in?
Students will do monthly activities in their high school to raise awareness about organ donation and transplantation in partnership with New England Donor Services.
What are the program requirements?
Students must attend monthly virtual meetings with the Program Director, complete program activities at their high school, and submit a final impact and reflection assignment.
Will I receive academic credit?
Students do not receive high school or college credit; however, the experience is an excellent addition to a resume or college application.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, students who complete the program will receive a certificate at our virtual end-of-year recognition ceremony.
